"I've lost faith that he wants to do it."

you mean because he has publicly said many times that he doesnt want to play in defence? what a revelation!

I still think Kouyate would be our best centre-back, but I've lost faith that he wants to do it. He seems to want to be a midfielder. Declan Rice I know little about but I liked his short cameo. Reece Burke should be in and around the first team imo.

I would have tried to sell two of our senior centre-backs to be replaced by a new signing + Burke and the other youngsters. Maguire for £11m seems like good business to me. Interested to see how much Gibson goes for.

Sticking largely with a defence that was terrible last season seems like a bad strategy to me. I hope they improve of course.

I agree justin looks our best defence in years. I would put masuaka in front of Cresswell. Also agree on the cover i dont recall us having a decent back up for each position.
If we manage to get hart with city paying half his wages and get a few million on either Randy or Adrian then its a real good bit of business by our chairman.

He'd probably want to bring jordan spence back.

Which is too often.

I think he's just ok. A good backs-to-the-wall kind of player - every squad needs one of those.

I think we'll definitely start with a back four, which is positive because we didn't create much when we went to three CBs. Depends if Zabaleta is up to it or not.

Not if it’s the Hart from the last couple of season’s….

Re: Is this potentially the stongest back 5 in years?
Maybe - but we have not had a decent defence for years

Zabaleta - old and past it
Ogbonna - ok
Cresswell - not the same after the injury
Reid - midtable centerback

I would like to have seen oxford play this season

I think we will be playing with 3 cbs next season. It seems to suit us better.

Re: Is this potentially the stongest back 5 in years?
Not really. I think Zabaleta will get shown up next season, he's just too old and slow.

Well be looking for another right back this time next year.

Four out of five have question marks over their recent form. A lot to prove imo.

Re: Is this potentially the stongest back 5 in years?
Personally I think Masuaku ha shown better recent form that Cresswell, but with either it's still a very decent back five, you're right!
